Have you received the sofa? I sent you the envelope
If a couch could be tucked into an envelope and carried away... ? It's a sofa, isn't it? Isn't it a cushion?
Ikea's design lab Space10 has teamed up with Panter&Tourron to develop a sofa that fits inside an envelope.
The sofa weighs only about 10kg (about the weight of a two-year-old child) and is modular in design, making it easy to assemble and disassemble. The entire sofa is made from 100% recycled materials, including aluminum frames, fibrous fabrics, and mycelium foam. After disassembly, it can be stuffed into a flat packaging bag, and a person can carry it away, which is not only convenient for moving, but also more economical and fast for transportation from the perspective of businesses.
According to Space10, the concept sofa was conceived to challenge some problematic design prototypes. They pointed out that although the sofa has a variety of forms, as a piece of furniture with a long history, its basic design logic has not changed, and even today, many sofas are becoming larger and larger, very inconvenient to carry and not environmentally friendly.
So, using AI, they "liberated" the sofa from its solidified, bulky prototype and created this "sofa in an envelope."
It's ultra-thin, ultra-light, ultra-green, and flexible. Modular design, so that it can be converted into different forms, adapt to different environments and needs, from one person to multiple people, from leisure to social, this "sofa in an envelope", can meet.
However, the sofa is not yet in production, and is only on display as an exhibit in Space10's exhibition "Design in the Age of AI."
